Download Tottenham Duo At Risk Of Failing To Make Europa League Squad
The Telegraph have claimed Tottenham Hotspur duo Gedson Fernandes and Paulo Gazzaniga are in danger of failing to make the 25-man Europa League squad with Jose Mourinho having to pick 17 non-homegrown players.
Spurs failed to bring in a central defender on deadline day, though they did complete six signings. Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Carlos Vinicius and Pierre-Emile Hojberg all joined while Joe Rodon could still move this summer.
The signings have seen a number of players fall down the pecking order at Spurs, with the likes of Gedson, Gazzaniga, Danny Rose and others struggling to get game time. Mourinho picks his Europa League side on Tuesday.
REAL MADRID SHOULD BE ASHAMED
The Portuguese boss must pick a side that is only allowed 17 non-homegrown players with Eric Dier and Ben Davies not considered homegrown. Gedson and Gazzaniga are at risk of missing out with the latter almost being sold on deadline day.
Unfortunately for Gedson, he has not adapted to English football since his move from Benfica in January. Spurs also boast numerous players in his position, with the signing of Hojbjerg likely to have pushed Gedson further down the pecking order.
Gedson, 21 who has a £56million (Telegraph) permanent clause in his loan deal may have looked at the Europa League as a chance to get game time. But now, the midfielder may even struggle to get a chance in Europe.
Gazzaniga, though, will surely have expected to potentially miss out with Hart being signed. The Argentine could still go on loan this summer, with EFL clubs able to sign Premier League players.
